Can dogs commit suicide?

Of course not! Every life has a will to live. Well, that's not how it seemed for our beagle, Tiger (may he rest in peace).

It started off when we got him as a mere puppy. The doggie doctor thought he had the most beautiful eyes (she said it looked like he had on eyeliner - so, you all know I connected instantly with her) and perfect disposition (little did we know). Anyway we brought him home to join our basset hound that was getting grayer by the day. They had an instant bonding experience. About two years ago, our BH, Batman (may he rest in peace), died of cancer. Well, poor Tiger was hit very hard by his best friend's passing. He became a very different doggie than he was before Batman died.

Now, it could have been because he was lonely, but he escaped our fenced backyard, not once, but many times. Some of the times he was gone for more than a week. I really thought he had died on those occasions. He would come home very sick, so we headed back to the doctor's office at a very large cost. We could not keep him in the fence. Our yard still shows the damage he created. Anyway, he and a neighbor's dog became fast friends, even running away together. Lest you think it be family related, the neighbor's dog is a male also. When they finally came home together, they started lying down on either side of the road, almost tempting the oncoming traffic to hit them.

Well, the rest is history. They ran away together, played together, and were killed together. We don't know how both dogs were hit by the same car. They were found so far apart. We can only guess that when one saw the other die, the other must have thrown his body in the road too. So, we think they did commit suicide if you look at all the evidence. What do you think.
